Sewing & textiles
Clothes, baby things, bags, quilts and knits. Batchwell tracks fabric by the yard and trim by the inch, and works out what every piece really costs, your time included.
Ready now
- Patterns by the piece
- List the fabric, trim and hardware one piece takes, with a cutting allowance and minutes per piece. Plan a run of 12 and see the yards it needs, rounded up to the next ⅛ yard.
- Prints and colorways
- One pattern, several fabrics. Pick the print when you start a run and the cost follows the fabric you used.
- Counted the way you buy it
- Yards, feet, inches, metres and pieces. Receive a bolt and use it down run by run.
- A run number on every run
- Every run gets a lot code to put on a tracking label. Trace a piece back to the fabric and snaps that went in, or forward to where it most likely went.
- Your time in the price
- Set minutes per piece and a run shows the hours it takes. Your labor counts in each run's cost, and Know your worth shows what you earn per hour.
- A starter shelf and a checklist
- One tap adds common sewing materials. The compliance hub covers CPSIA, fiber and care labels, flammability and drawstrings, with links to the CPSC and FTC.
Sewing for children
In the US, things made for children 12 and under need a tracking label, a Children's Product Certificate and testing for some parts, like snaps and zippers. Small makers can register with the CPSC each year to skip some lab tests. Batchwell's run numbers and lot records are built for this.
This isn't legal advice. Check the CPSC's small business pages for your own products.
Being built in the beta
- Size runs graded from one pattern
- A fabric yardage calculator: pieces across the width, shrinkage, yards to buy
- Care, content and tracking labels printed from the run
Tell us what you'd put first. Beta makers shape the order.

Questions
- Does it work for knitting and crochet?
- Yes. Track yarn by the gram or by the skein, and time each piece.
- I make one-off custom orders.
- Make each one a run of one. It gets its own run number, and the cost comes from the fabric you used.
- Is my fabric tested for lead?
- Fabric and thread don't need a lead test. Snaps, zippers, buttons and screen prints do. Keep the supplier's test report on its lot.
Rules change. Batchwell links every item to the official source; nothing here is legal or tax advice.
