Know what went into every batch.
Batchwell is the workroom app we built for our own small body care company. It keeps the batch record while you work, then puts it to use everywhere else: your shelf, real costs, labels, markets, what you earn and tax time.
Free during the beta. Made for your phone at the bench.

A sample lot. Sales count against the oldest released lot, so the forward trail shows where a lot most likely went.
It started at our own bench.
We make tallow deodorant, soap and balms at Willow & Watch in College Station, Texas. When a supplier declined to sign our cruelty-free declaration, we needed to know which batches used their ingredients and where those batches went. Answering that took an afternoon with invoices and notebooks.
So we built a tool that answers it in seconds. Then we kept going, because the same records could tell us what a tube really costs, whether a market was worth the booth fee, and what to hand our tax preparer. Willow & Watch runs on it every day.

The moments that used to cost us an evening, and what Batchwell does with each one.
-
The batch on the bench
Pick a batch size and every ingredient gets a target weight. Type what the scale says and you see right away if you're over or under. Tick off steps, run timers and log temperatures. If the signal drops, it keeps saving on your phone. When you're done, the batch has its lot code, the supplier lots that went in, its cost per unit and the day it's ready to sell.
-
The box that just arrived
Enter the invoice and the one freight charge. Batchwell splits the freight across the box by weight or by cost, to the cent, so every lot carries what it really cost you. The certificate of analysis and safety data sheet stay with the lot. When something runs low, it goes on a shopping list grouped by supplier, with an order email drafted for each one.
-
Market Saturday
Bring your markets in from your calendar or from Seen Markets links. Batchwell works out what to make so it's cured in time, builds the packing list and emails you a reminder before you go. Afterwards, drop in your Square sales file and the day gets a scorecard: what it left you after the booth fee and card fees, and what that came to per hour.
-
The customer who calls about a reaction
Note it on the batch. If it's serious, you see the date an FDA report is due, so it doesn't sneak up on you. Trace the lot back to every supplier lot in it, and forward to the orders and markets it most likely went to. Quarantine a bad ingredient lot so it can't go into the next batch, or recall the batch and take unsold units off the shelf.
-
“What does this actually cost me?”
Every batch shows its cost per unit: ingredients at landed cost, packaging, and your time when you log it. Know your worth takes out each channel's fees and shows what a sale really leaves you, what you earn per hour, and retail and wholesale prices that cover both.
-
Tax time
Snap receipts as you go and each one lands on its Schedule C line. Log miles at the IRS rate, or let your phone track the drive. Profit & loss shows what Shopify, markets and wholesale each left you. When it's time, download one tax pack for your preparer: Schedule C totals, cost of goods with opening and closing inventory, sales tax by quarter, and a QuickBooks-ready file.
-
The idea you want to try
Start a project, a firmer balm or a new scent, and run trials side by side. Score each one against goals for your kind of product, then make the winner a production recipe. Recipes keep dated versions from pilot to locked to retired, and every batch remembers the version it was made from.
And the rest of the workroom
The jobs that used to live in a notebook, three spreadsheets and a calculator app, fed by the batches you already record. Each one sits where you'd look for it in the app.
- The bench
Labels printed from the batch
Body care labels with INCI names, candle labels with the WARNING, cottage food labels with allergens and your state's statement, cleaner labels with their warnings, care and children's tracking labels, and numbered back-of-card labels.
- The logbook
Rules for what you sell
The licenses, insurance and certifications that fit your kind of making, in plain words with a link to the official source. Renewals show up before they come due.
- The lab
Calculators
A soap calculator with 100 oils and bar qualities, scent load, vessel fill, fabric yardage, ink per sheet, postage, resin, board feet, metal and leather. Check a saved recipe before you weigh a gram.
- The shop
Shopify, Etsy and Square
Shopify orders take stock off by lot as they come in, and refunds put it back. Etsy and Square sales come in from their files, never counted twice.
- The bench
What to make next
Markets, wholesale orders and restocking turned into one list: what to make, and the day to start it so it's ready in time.
- The files
Spreadsheets in and out
Edit materials, recipes and products in Excel and bring them back in. Download a full backup whenever you like.
- Brands
A soap brand and a bakery
Run more than one brand from one workspace, each with its own kinds of making, lot codes, rules and labels.
