Steps
- Go to Stock and tap New material.
- Give it a Name and, for body care, its INCI name. Choose a Type: Ingredients, Essential oils & blends, Packaging, Labels or Supplies. Bakers see Flavors & extracts instead of essential oils.
- Choose what it’s Counted in. Leave it as is for grams, or pieces for packaging and labels. See units below.
- Set Plant-based? if you run a vegan brand, and Reorder at if you want a warning when it runs low. Tap Add material.
- When your list is in, open More → Starting stock. Every material with no stock on record is listed.
- Weigh or estimate what’s on the shelf and type it in. Pick the unit you weighed in. Leave anything you don’t have blank.
- Add What it cost ($) for that amount if you know it. It’s optional, but batch costs use it.
- Tap Save. The button counts the items, like “Save 12 items”.
Bakers can tap Add common baking ingredients for a starter pantry with allergens already marked. Delete or rename any you don’t use.
Units: grams, millilitres, pieces, yards…
Each material is counted in one unit: grams (weighed), pieces (counted), millilitres, yards, feet, inches, metres or sheets. You can enter a delivery in any unit of the same kind, and Batchwell converts it:
- Counted in grams: enter g, kg, lb or oz.
- Counted in a length: enter yd, ft, in, m or cm.
- Counted in millilitres: enter ml, l, fl oz or gal.
- Counted in pieces or sheets: enter a count.
The unit is fixed once stock has been received for that material. If your workspace uses US units (Settings → Units), ounces or pounds show beside every gram figure.
On each material’s page
Tap a material to see what’s on hand and every order of it. You can also set Organic, mark allergens (cottage food), and choose Tracked by lot. Choose “No” for things like tap or distilled water, so batches don’t ask which lot you used.
Good to know
- From now on, new deliveries go through Receive, so each one gets its own lot and cost.
- To correct an amount later, use a shelf count, not starting stock.
- Today reminds you when materials have no stock entered. Until you enter it, they don’t count toward shortages or costs.
- A material at or below its reorder amount shows Reorder on the list and appears under Low stock on Today.
- Archive material, at the bottom of its page, takes it off your lists.
