Steps
- Go to More → Profit & loss.
- Choose Month, Quarter or Year, and step back or forward with the arrows.
- Read each channel’s column down to What each channel left you.
- Below that, shared costs come off, giving Profit before your time. With an hourly rate set, you also see After paying yourself.
The tax pack
- Go to More → Taxes and choose the year.
- Check the Schedule C lines, Cost of goods (Part III) and Sales tax by quarter.
- Tap Download tax pack. You get a ZIP with spreadsheets for Schedule C, cost of goods, expenses, mileage, sales and sales tax, a file QuickBooks can import, and a read-me.
- Send it to your tax preparer.
Where the figures come from
- Cost of goods is the ingredients and packaging in the units sold, at their landed cost, never your own time.
- Selling fees are estimated from each channel’s rate in Sales channels.
- Booth fees come from your confirmed and done markets, and go on Schedule C line 20b.
- Sales tax uses the rate in Settings. Online and market sales count as taxable; wholesale and Faire sales are for resale.
- Inventory values come from your stock as recorded. A shelf count on December 31 makes them exact.
- You earned per hour needs your batch time and market hours logged.
These are working figures for you and your preparer, not a filed return. Batchwell sorts and totals; it doesn’t file. This isn’t tax advice.
Good to know
- More → Month-end shows what you made, sold and spent each month, with a sales tax estimate.
- Home office (line 30) is left for your preparer.
- Markets in another city may use that city’s sales tax rate. Your state’s return is the final word.
- The QuickBooks file holds cash and personal-card buys only; your bank feed brings the rest.
