Finish, QC hold and release

Finishing takes the materials off stock and puts the batch on QC hold. Releasing it puts the units into finished stock, ready to sell.

Find it Batch → Finish

Steps

  1. On the batch, open Finish. Enter Units filled, Finished weight (g), Waste / loss (g) and Your time (minutes). Your time feeds your costs and what you earn per hour.
  2. Leave Best-by blank to use the recipe’s shelf life, or set a date.
  3. Read the box under Finish batch. Anything that stops you is listed: a line with no weight, no lot chosen, or a lot that can’t be used.
  4. Choose the checks to schedule: 24-hour check, 1-week check and 4-week stability. Leave Keep a retain sample ticked and say where it’s kept.
  5. Tap Finish, deduct stock, put on QC hold.
  6. When it’s ready to judge, open Release & QC and tick each release check from the recipe.
  7. Check Units going into finished stock for each product. It starts from the units filled.
  8. Add a Release note if you like, then tap Release for sale. Or tap Reject batch.

Fill checks

Once a batch is finished, Fill-weight check appears on Release & QC for products that have a net weight.

  1. Tare the scale with an empty container.
  2. Weigh 5 to 10 filled units.
  3. Choose the Product and type the weights, separated by spaces or commas.
  4. Tap Log fill check.

A check passes when the average meets the net weight on the label and no unit is more than 3% under it. For a 75 g label, the average must be at least 75 g and the lightest unit at least 72.75 g. Pass or fail, the result is saved in the batch’s log. The label weight is the product’s Net weight (g) in Products.

Cure and ready-to-sell dates

Give a recipe a Cure or rest time in days. When you finish a batch, its Ready to sell date is set that many days after the day you finish. Until then, Today lists it under Curing, and Plan production allows for the cure when it tells you when to start. You can change the date on the Finish tab. Print Cure rack tags to keep the dates on the rack.

Rejecting or recalling

  • Reject from QC hold: stock stays deducted. Log what happens to the units.
  • Recall a released batch: tap Recall batch. Unsold units come out of finished stock and the batch is marked rejected.

Good to know

  • Finishing needs every edit to have reached Batchwell. If some are still on your phone, get back online first.
  • Release for sale waits until every release check is ticked.
  • If no units are going into finished stock, or far more than the batch filled, Batchwell asks once more. Tap Release anyway if it’s right.
  • If you made the batch, have someone else do the release checks when you can.
  • Units only land in finished stock for products linked to the recipe. Add them in Products.
  • Scheduled checks appear on Today under Checks due. Enter the result on the batch and tap Done.
  • Cost & trace shows what the batch cost, the cost per unit, and which lots went in.
